Braised Beef & Abalone

I know I have been neglecting the blog for quite a while. My apologies, my friends.  Nevertheless, it's still here and will always be. Without wasting more time, I would like to share this simple entry with you all. If you like Chinese-style meals, here is one. I must tell you, I can't quite remember the measurements of the recipe...but worry not, I think this is so easy that you can add if the ingredients I am about to write is not enough to make up the amount you're cooking.

Braised Beef & Abalone
(serves two)

Easy to make, give it a try!

Ingredients:

Thinly sliced beef tenderloin (daging batang pinang)
1 can      abalone (ada dijual di hypermarket), cut into thin slices
3 cloves  shallot
2 cloves  garlic
4 slices   ginger
3 tbsp     oyster sauce
4 tbsp     hoisin sauce
1 tsp       coarse black pepper
salt to taste
1/2        cup of water(or more if you like thinner gravy)
2 tsp      mixed with 2-3 tbsp of water to thicken the sauce

for ganish:
-  half a medium onion, cut into wedges
-  green onions, cut in long stripes of about an inch
-  3 pieces dried chilli, cut into strips of an inch

Method:

1.     Marinate the beef slices with oyster sauce, hoisin sauce and black pepper for about 15 mins or 30 mins if you can afford to wait.

2.     Heat your wok, pour in about 4 tbsp of oil, throw in shallots, garlic & ginger and stir for 2-3 minutes.

3.     Pour in your marinated beef, and slow down your heat and fry for 10 minutes, stirring every now and then add in half a cup of water. Then add in the sliced abalones. Let the beef simmer under low-medium heat for another 15 minutes. Taste, and add in more oyster or hoisin sauce if required, if you like the gravy thicker.  Then taste if it needs more salt.

4.     Put in your onion wedges, and pour in your slur (bancuhan corn flour + air) bit by bit and stir the sauce while doing so. Please make sure you stir the slur before pouring into your sauce, and pour in only until you reach the desired thickness of gravy.

5.     Add in the dried chillis and green onions, stir in and remove from heat.  Ready to serve,

This is a very simple recipe that I think anyone can do it, even if you're not that good in cooking. Remember to mix your corn flour with cold water and make sure you stir your sauce when you pour in the corn flour mixture to avoid lumps.
